About the Artist
Virginia Green explores sculpture with curiosity and energy — inspired by the human form, nature and iconography. Virginia’s work, both abstract and representational, derives its power from her intuitive and technical mastery of the medium. Her sculptures are often characterized by curving, liquid shapes emerging from the hand-chiseled ruggedness of marble, alabaster or granite.
Virginia's passion for sculpture evolves from a lifetime of creativity in a variety of professions — from graphic design and advertising, to writing, weaving and illustration. Although from her earliest memories she has sculpted in clay, it wasn’t until the 1990s when Virginia visited the vast prehistoric megalithic temples in Malta, that she first embraced the desire to work in stone.
Since that time, Virginia has studied in ateliers in New Jersey, Florida and Nantucket, as well as in Tinos, Greece.
Virginia ’s stone and bronze sculptures have been exhibited in commercial art galleries and juried shows, and appear in private collections in New York and New England. She welcomes requests for commissioned work. Virginia is a member of the Copley Society of Art in Boston and South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA.
